Bubble.io Templates: Are They Worth It? (And the Best Ones in 2026)
Not all templates save time — some cost more than starting from scratch. Six questions to ask before buying any Bubble template, when templates genuinely make sense, and why the most experienced builders rarely use templates for production.
Should You Start With a Bubble Template or Build From Scratch?
Bubble.io has a marketplace of pre-built templates ranging from free starters to $500+ premium templates. The idea is appealing: pay once, get a head start. The reality is more complicated. Some templates are excellent starting points that save weeks of architecture work. Many others are poorly architected, hard to customise, and end up costing more time than starting from scratch. This guide tells you when templates make sense and what to look for before buying.
The Right Use Cases for Bubble Templates
Learning a Pattern
Templates are excellent for understanding how to build something specific: a Kanban board, a booking calendar, a marketplace checkout. Buy the template to study the implementation, not necessarily to use it as your product.
Standard UI Components
Templates that provide well-designed UI components (navigation, dashboard layouts, form patterns) save design time without imposing architectural constraints. Look for templates focused on visual components rather than application logic.
Replacing Architecture Thinking
A template cannot replace thinking about your specific data model, user roles, and business logic. Templates that come with a pre-built architecture may save build time but impose constraints that do not fit your use case. The architecture still needs to be your decision.
Six Questions to Ask About Any Bubble Template
When was it last updated?
Check the template’s last update date. Templates not updated since 2023 may use deprecated Bubble features or patterns that no longer represent best practice. Active maintenance is a signal of quality.
What does the data model look like?
Every paid template should include documentation of its data model. If there is no documentation, open the template and look at Data → Data Types. Is there a workspace field for multi-tenant isolation? Are there privacy rules? A template without these is not suitable for a real SaaS product.
Are there privacy rules configured?
Click on Data → Privacy for the template app. Every data type should have explicit privacy rules. ‘Everyone’ as the final configuration is a red flag. No privacy rules means the template was built for demonstration, not for a real multi-tenant product.
How many recent positive reviews are there?
Check the review date distribution. 20 five-star reviews from 2022 mean little about the template’s current quality. Look for recent reviews that specifically mention using the template for a real project.
Is the architecture documented?
The best templates include a Loom video or written guide explaining the architecture decisions: what data types exist and why, how privacy rules are configured, what each key workflow does. Without this, you are reverse-engineering an unfamiliar codebase.
Can you see the app in preview?
Run the template app in preview mode before buying. Does it behave as expected? Are there obvious bugs? Does the mobile layout work? A template that has not been tested produces problems you inherit.
Starting Points Worth Using
| Template | What It Provides | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Bubble’s Official SaaS Template | Authentication, workspace model, basic billing | Starting point for any multi-tenant SaaS |
| Air’s App Template (Canvas) | Design system and component library | Teams that want consistent UI design from day one |
| Marketplace Template (Bubble) | Two-sided marketplace with Stripe | Teams building a marketplace who want a structural foundation |
The Best Template Is No Template
The most experienced Bubble architects rarely use templates for production projects. The reason: a template’s architecture is designed for a general use case, not your specific use case. Adapting a template to your specific data model and user roles often takes as long as building correctly from scratch — and leaves you maintaining someone else’s architectural decisions. Templates are excellent for learning. For production, build the architecture that fits your product.
